Are you a parent travelling abroad with a child with a different surname?

18th May 2017

There have been recent reports in the press concerning parents who are travelling abroad with their children but the children have a different surname, perhaps because of divorce or the parents are unmarried.

This is a recent article published in the Newcastle Chronicle https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/you-parent-travelling-abroad-child-13033325

Parents are being stopped from travelling because they do not carry the correct documentation to prove that the child is their son or daughter.

The documentation you will need is:

  • A copy if the Child Arrangements Order
  • The child’s birth certificate
  • If there has been a change of name on divorce you will need to carry the Change of Name Deed
  • Additionally for separated parents : Evidence of approval from anyone with parental responsibility(this may include extended family if there is shared parental responsibility)

We can assist with Change of Name Deeds and obtaining the other documents mentioned here.
